US President Trump told CNBC on the 5th that he will announce new taxes on semiconductors and chips as soon as next week. He also claimed that NT$30 billion (about NT$897 trillion) will be invested in Arizona to build the world's largest crystal factory.
Donald Trump said when interviewing the US financial media CNBC program Squawk Box: "We are about to issue an announcement on semiconductors and chips. This is a different category because we want these products to be made in the United States."
Trump called this announcement to be released "in the next week or so." He did not disclose other details of the plan. He also said, "We have the largest (enterprise) in the world, you know, from Taiwan, and will invest $300 billion in Arizona to build the world's largest chip and semiconductor factory."
