Dog owners will know that dogs sometimes bark in an empty place (or air) for no reason. This really challenges the nerves of the dog owner. What are the dogs thinking when barking like this?

From a common sense, dogs are humans' best friends. But when a dog barks to the empty corner of the room, to the door, or to any place where there is no movement, the friendship between humans and dogs may be tested. Is this a dog hallucination? Or is the dog talking to life in a cross-dimensional space? Or is it the dog just trying to drive the owner crazy? The American Kennel Club said the most common explanation for unreasonable barking is that it may not be really for no reason, but humans cannot detect visual, auditory, and olfactory clues that dogs can perceive. Obviously, dogs have super sharp hearing and can hear higher pitch sounds. In theory, the dog may be reacting to a certain sound, which may be the sound of a vehicle whistle in the distance, and the person around the dog cannot hear it.

If a dog seems to yell for no reason at night, it may be because the sound around it has weakened, allowing the dog to hear the barking of other dogs. Because dogs have territorial consciousness, a dog barking will cause many dogs to start barking.

Dogs see more clearly in the dark than humans because their retina can absorb more light. If a dog barked at the backyard where you looked empty at night, it might be that they noticed something, maybe a wildlife, a leaf, or a serial killer.

This does not mean that dogs barking because their senses sense something. Some dogs may yell spontaneously because of boredom, which means they need more exercise or fun time. They may also be trying to get the owner's attention.

The American Kennel Club recommends that dog owners try not to scold dogs when they bark, because they are just alert. You should try to soothe the dog and let the dog know that you already understand its concerns. If the dogs always bark while looking out the window, you can try pulling the curtains so that they can't see what's outside the window. If you suspect that the dog is barking because he hears a sound, you can play some white noise (such as turning on the TV or the radio) to cover it.

Although it is not very common, long-term barking may also be a signal that dogs have cognitive problems. If the dog keeps barking and there is nothing in the bushes, you might want to consider taking the dog to see a vet.
