According to the British media "Manchester Evening News", if Echeverry does not get a chance in Leverkusen, Manchester City will consider recalling him in January.

Leverkusen has been a popular destination for young players with potential over the past few seasons, but time may be working against Manchester City youngster Echeverri.

In the 2023/24 season, Leverkusen accelerated the growth of many players during Xavi Alonso's successful tenure, and Liverpool's Frimpong and Wirtz are among them. However, the pharmaceutical factory has undergone tremendous changes this summer. It was once a training ground for top players, but now it has become significantly more difficult to gain a foothold in the team.

When he joined Leverkusen in August, Echeverry was regarded as Wirtz's successor. Pharmaceutical director Rolfes handed him the No. 9 jersey and said that he is a player who can make fans willing to come to the stadium to watch the game.

Guardiola gave Echeverri his debut in the FA Cup final and later praised him as "a very talented player in small spaces" after scoring against Al Ain in the Club World Cup. However, Echeverri sprained his ankle in the first half of that game and missed the rest of the game, but people are still looking forward to seeing his performance because he is expected to enter the Manchester City first team next season.

It is not surprising that Echeverri encountered difficulties in Leverkusen. Alonso's successor Ten Hag was fired after just two games with the team, and was subsequently replaced by former Denmark coach Jurmand. This is a change for Echeverri, as he was signed during ten Hag's tenure, although German clubs usually have their sporting directors leading their recruitment strategy.

Echeverri played 35 minutes in the two games coached by Ten Hag, but his playing opportunities were more limited after Juermand took office. Echeverri failed to appear in 3 of the 4 Bundesliga games coached by Urmande, and only played 14 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

In the Champions League, Echeverry played 23 minutes and provided assists against Copenhagen, and played 10 minutes against PSV. As of now, his official playing time this season is only 82 minutes, which is obviously not what Manchester City or Echeverri expected.

Echeverri still has time to change his situation, although the fact that Urmande has been unbeaten in 6 games since taking office means that large-scale lineup adjustments are unlikely to occur at present.

On November 26, Leverkusen will face Manchester City away from home, and UEFA rules mean that Echeverry can play at that time. The question is how big of a role he can play in this game.

Manchester City hopes that he can grow this season, which means that he needs to get more game opportunities in the Bundesliga and Champions League. If this situation continues, they are likely to consider recalling Echeverri in the January winter window and look for other options.
