September 24th According to the South American Overseas Chinese News Network on the 23rd, the latest data released by the Chilean Pet Registration Office shows that Chile has registered a total of 945,237 pet dogs and pet cats, of which the Santiago capital region has the largest number. In 2019, many cities in Chile introduced pet protection and management measures for pet sterilization, hiring veterinarians, etc.

It is reported that in recent years, pets have gradually been regarded as "family members" and even become special "subsidy objects", and their importance is increasing. Against this background, Chile has taken some public measures, such as setting up a Chilean pet registration office, conducting pet registration and filing, and creating an overview of pet distribution.

Nationwide, Upper Puente registered the largest number of pet dogs, with a total of 25,778, followed by Maipu with 23,176, La Florida with 19,834, Temuco with 16,807, and Iquique with 16,790.

The city with the largest number of pet cats registered is Temuco, with 5,863, followed by San Diego with 5,160, Maipe with 4,981, Laflorida with 4,405, and Upper Puente with 3,954. Sandra Eddo, head of the Chilean animal organization Huellitas, said that although more and more owners are very concerned about pets, they still often see animal abuse, so they need to adopt, take care of and feed unprotected small animals together. She said: "Some people do not have enough resources to take care of their pets and need some support."

According to reports, the organization carried out pet sterilization activities with the Upper Puente Municipal Government and actively promoted the implantation of microchips.

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Safety of Chile pointed out that according to the requirements of each municipal government, they provided more than 2 billion pesos in 2019 for the "pet protection" program, including hiring of veterinarians, microchip implantation, pet sterilization, etc. The municipal government of Puente said that the budget for animal protection programs by the animal infectious disease department is 211 million pesos. In addition, they have spayed 1,753 dogs in 2019; since 2015, 14,000 microchip implants have been completed.

animal rescuer Carolina Castillo said that in Temuco, there are basically no shelter centers for pet cats, because such policies are more inclined toward dogs. However, due to the surge in the number of apartment buildings in recent years, pet cats have also increased as they are more suitable for apartment living. The municipal government of Temuko said they allocated 100 million pesos annually to projects to control dog and cat numbers.

The city of La Florida also has a large number of dogs and cats, and Mayor Rudolph Carter said they even set up a "canine housing subsidy" to provide 20 cabins for street stray animals. He said: "We have used 7,000 rabies vaccines to sterilize 3,000 dogs and cats. We hope to complete 15,000 free microchip implants this year."

In San Diego, the number of registered pet cats in the country is the second largest in the country, and the number of pet dogs ranks tenth. In 2019, the city promised to spend pesos 62 million, including 3,515 rabies vaccines. In addition, forest parks and other places have also set up pet leisure areas.
