Usually, the incubation period of canine distemper is about 7 to 14 days, and there are also several other dogs whose incubation period will be longer or shortened due to other factors. So how long will the incubation period of dog distemper? The incubation period of canine distemper is 3 to 6 days (up to 17 to 21 days), and the course of the disease lasts about one month. The mortality rate of this disease is 30% to 80%, and the mortality rate is higher when secondary infection occurs. The incidence rate is related to age: 20% within 2 months of age, 70% at 2 to 12 months of age, and over 2 years of age, the incidence rate is reduced, 5% at 5 to 10 years of age. Recovered dogs can be immunized for life after illness. The disease is mainly onset in winter and spring, and it is prevalent every three years.

The early stages of canine distemper mainly show cold symptoms and enteritis symptoms. Sneeze, runny nose fluid, cough, fever, eat less, and mild diarrhea. After 2 to 4 days of treatment, the symptoms were basically eliminated and the food returned to normal, but the feeding speed slowed down, the spirit was poor, inactive, and the nose mirror was dry. 7 to 14 days to turn into intermediate symptoms. The second increase in body temperature, loss of appetite, serous nasal fluid, cough, rapid breathing, chest and abdominal breathing, flushing of the ball conjunctiva, redness, swollen eyelids, dampness or erosion. In the later stage, the body temperature is normal or mild fever (body temperature is 38.5~39.5℃), cough, purulent nasal fluid, eyelid erosion, eyes are half open and half closed, eyes become smaller, thin, and like to lie down and move lazily. Eat less, picky or hunger strike, and loosen your stools. In addition, there are characteristic symptoms such as thickening of toe pads, skin papules (in some cases, red papules the size of rice grains appear on the lower abdomen and medial femoral skin), and neurological symptoms.

Canine distemper is incubated for a long time, so once you have symptoms of the disease, it means that the dog has been infected with this disease for a while. The initial symptoms of the disease are similar to those of a cold. Therefore, it is best to pay more attention to the dog when it has cold symptoms, and you should pay more attention to puppies. Although the cure rate of canine distemper is relatively low, it can also be treated, so it is best for the owner not to give up easily.
